As a business strategist, I am often asked by multi-passionate people how they can finally get focused on the right things in their business to build momentum and start making an impact. In today’s article, I will review five key elements that need to be in place for a multi-passionate entrepreneur to focus and succeed in their business.
Strategy #1: Define Your Vision
Do you have a vision for your life? Is it written down? Have you thought about what you want to accomplish in this lifetime? If you can’t say yes to these questions, this is where you must start to build a successful business as a multi-passionate entrepreneur.
Creating your vision will allow you to determine how you want to make an impact on the world. Your vision will drive how you make decisions, which in turn determines your outcomes in everything you do.
A couple of the questions you would ask yourself to start defining your vision are:
- What do you want to create and leave behind for your family, friends, and society as a whole?
- How do you want to be remembered when you depart this Earthly plane?
When you have your vision firmly in place, you can see where you are going. It becomes the roadmap to your life. And when you have that, you can build your business to fit into that journey.
Strategy #2: Directed Self-Reflection
This is a process of reflecting on your life to determine what lights you up, what gets you going, and what inspires you to have a great day.
As a multi-passionate person, we can often get caught up in all the things we do without really thinking about what we like to do, what we are good at doing, and how we can apply those things to our business.
It’s not enough to create a business based on something we know how to do if we really don’t like doing it. For instance, when I had my corporate job, I always got “stuck” doing the budget management for the departments I worked in. I didn’t like doing the budget work, but when asked why I kept getting the assignment the response was always, “Because you’re so good at it.”
So, we can be good at something – multi-passionate people tend to be good at a lot of things – but that doesn’t mean we should start a business doing it. Going through the self-reflection phase will help you think through your past and current situation to find those hidden gems that could one day turn into a business.
Strategy #3: Creating Your Master List
This is the next step after doing the self-reflection. If you do the self-reflection part well you will have a lot of great information to dig through for this exercise.
Why do we need a master list? I’m glad you asked. Multi-passionate people sometimes get lost in the doing part of who they are. They find something they want to learn, go in and dig a little further, and then when they have gone as far as they want, they move on to something else. They may come back to that first thing, or they may forget about it entirely.
The master list will allow you to capture the nuggets of information that will help you find what would make the best theme for your venture. If you want to create a genuinely multi-passionate business using a few of your passions, you will need to have a strategy that allows you to identify an overarching theme that your passions can fit nicely into. The master list will help you get there.
Strategy #4: Your Perfect Day As a Multi-Passionate Person
This is a fun activity and allows your creative mind to go into overdrive – which generally isn’t difficult for a multi-passionate person to do.
Do you know what your ideal day looks like? From the moment you open your eyes to the moment you go back to sleep, do you know what the perfect day for you entails?
If not, daydreaming about this will bring clarity to your life and business. When you know how you want your days to play out you can make it happen. If you wake up every day without a vision or a plan for how you want it to be, guess what happens – whatever comes flying through the ether.
Like I always say, life is too short to wander aimlessly through the day and wonder what’s going to happen.

Strategy #5 – Finding Your Real Why
This, my friends, is the most critical strategy there is. As Simon Sinek explains in his Ted Talk, “People don’t care what you do, they care about why you do it.”
Knowing your real why will change how you pursue your goals. It will wake you up to what is really going on with your desire for achieving something.
When you identify a strong enough why you can make anything happen. And the opposite is true. If you don’t have a strong enough why, goals will become increasingly impossible to achieve.
There you have it – my five strategies for finding your multi-passionate focus. It’s not difficult work, but we often skip past these exercises to try and start building a business that struggles to move out of the idea stage and into the success stage.
